I did notice that on smoother bark trees it climbs/descends easier, but is still sorta awkward when using it. After this hunt I wanted to sell it immediately, but thought I better try it again. The cables were easily caught on the shaggy bark when climbing and descending. By the time I made it to about 18' I was sweating like crazy. I chose a Cherry tree and began fixing it to the base of the tree. Once I reached the area I wanted to hang in, my choice of trees were either Beech (full of brances) or Cherry trees. I liked the way the straps could be secured tight to my back which made it whisper quiet. Reality not practice: My first hunt I had about a 500 yard walk in and these features shined: lightweight, quiet, easy to pack in. After this I was anxious to see how it performed in a real hunting situation. The seat was cushy and comfortable, it was easy to set up and take down, and was compact and quiet to take off the tree and pack out. I made 2 attempts to a height of 18' and everything seemed to work well. Practice run: I had to give it a test run before an actual hunting situation and after a few times using it I got the hang of it. I literally broke out in a sweat tightening down 4 of them.

I used it this archery season a total of 6 times. I came across the X-Stand and thought I'd give it a try. I was looking for a light climber to use this season as I continue rehab from knee surgery several months ago.
